Odd Behaviors

Published by Amy at 10:41 am under Uncategorized Edit This

There are many behaviors that come along with the autism diagnoses.  Many kids engage in self-stimulatory behaviors when they are nervous, scared or even bored ect.  These behaviors really can not be extinguished because their bodies are craving this stimulation for some reason or another.  They might shake their head, hands, do a little tip toe dance plus numerous others.  They an be upsetting for parents to watch because many of them just look weird.  Parents can work on these behaviors in public using ques like quiet hands or no shaking.   The good news is as your child ages these behaviors can change and as quick as they started doing this new thing is as quick as they might stop.  When your child is at a point where they learn to control some behaviors that are not deemed socially appropriate they should be given a private place where they can do their thing.  Their bedroom is a good place.  This is their way of unwinding and balancing their bodies and at the end of the day what we all do in the privacy of our own bedrooms is basically our own business.
